Thai One On - Day 1

  • Sawadee Ka! Arrived in Bangkok at midnight after 23 hours of traveling from L.A. (17 in flight).
  • Stayed the night in an airport hotel, the only hotel we had booked in advance. Enjoyed the varied complimentary breakfast buffet of fried rice, fruit, rice soup, eggs, fried chicken and hot dogs.
  • Took a cab into town, then rode a tuk-tuk to the beautiful Grand Palace which we had fun exploring, as well as the nearby coin museum, and Wat Pho, home of the largest reclining Buddha in the world.
  • Grabbed a tuk-tuk to Chinatown where we had our first taste of "gremlins" (mystery-meat-on-a-stick) and we were hooked. Then, for about $4 total, we both feasted on large noodle bowls with lobster, pork and veggies, and a yellow flower iced tea and a black iced tea -- all delicious!
  • Boarded a pretty comfortable overnight bus north to Chiang Mai and had our first experience with one of the famed Ladyboys in the form of our steward...stewardess??
  • Stopped for dinner around midnight where we again consumed noodle bowls with meat and veggies.
