Swaziland - Day 2

  • Treated to a lovely breakfast at Malandela's of the "healthy breakfast" of muesli, yogurt and honey for me and the "English breakfast" of bacon, eggs, sausage, cooked carrots, zucchini and tomatoes for P.
  • Walked the beautiful, well-maintained B&B grounds and admired many cool plants.
  • Visited Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary. While we waited for our horseback ride to begin, we walked around camp and saw nyalas, impalas, warthogs and traditional beehive huts.

  • Met Lucky, the guide for our horseback ride, and set out on the adventure at 1 p.m. While riding through the sanctuary we saw zebras, nyalas, blasboks, impalas and wildebeest. We then ate lunch at the top of the mountain and my horse, Serenity, kept trying to steal my sandwich! I finally relented and gave her half of my apple, which seemed to please her.

  • Arrived at the cave at 5 p.m. and met camp host Jared, and enjoyed the wonderful view of the valley.
  • Ate a delicious dinner prepared by Jared of potjie and squash, and then we roasted marshmallows, drank dry sherry and chatted w/ Jared and Lucky around the campfire. In the middle of the night, a scorpion stung P in the back (twice!) but all was well the next morning.
